Have you ever been deleted on social media?
Page and I have been defriended on Facebook by quite a few people. Lets get real, it’s mostly Page being deleted. Now that we are one, I normally get the boot too. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.”
― Aristotle
Why do you delete people?
- You don’t want to engage with people that have different opinions than you.
- You find the person to be annoying.
- You may have hooked up with, or dated the person.
- The person keeps clogging your news feed with uninteresting things (aka their life.)
- You were offended by the person because they gave you ketchup when you asked for mustard. “You know I hate ketchup!”
- You think that your friends might be offended by the person, and it’s your duty to protect them.
Here are the three tips to avoid getting DELETED(written in the satiric tone):
- Say nothing. If a friend posts something on social media that you disagree with, instead of commenting with your viewpoint go with the safe route, say nothing. In fact, give the post a “like” this is the equivalent of you waving a little white flag that says, “please don’t delete me.” If you notice that someone is trying to give a friend a hard time on their Facebook post it’s your duty to jump in, and immediately start name calling. I’d start with “close-minded,” and follow up with “hate-monger.” If that doesn’t work hopefully they are a white man, then you can totally negate their opinion without reason.
- Do nothing. Be a basic robot. Don’t post about doing anything. Keep your posts limited to buzzfeed reposts and shots of non-offensive food items. Keep it kosher. Your friend’s ego matters more than any convictions you may have. Never asks tough questions. In fact, never ask any questions.
- Be nothing. Live your entire life trying not to offend people. It will be hard, but worth it. At the end of your life you can say, “you know I may be a spineless wet blanket but, at least I never offended anyone.”
Is this post offensive?
Great.
Are you inspired?
Great. Shake things up at the office. Be a man, stop being so damn agreeable. Hopefully, you will have the privilege of being deleted.
Things to think about:
- What does God care about?
- What do you care about?
- Are you truly open-minded if you hate people that don’t agree with you?
