“That’s it. We’re moving to Italy so I can perfect my pizza crust .”
Can someone tell me why I have to travel 15 minutes to get a pizza made with organic ingredients?
Last night we wanted a pizza. In order to stay on my, “organic food is better for you” pedestal, I try to adhere to the advice I give people. Well, we didn’t have pizza for dinner. I looked up Mellow Mushroom thinking they use quality ingredients because, they’re a nice place right? Good luck finding their ingredients, much less where they are sourced from. Man, I’m not trying to eat an expensive wack pizza. Let me save you the trouble, your favorite pizza place uses cheap, awful ingredients. Think, fake cheese and sad pigs.
A glimmer of hope…Lilly’s Pizza. A pizza joint in Durham, NC with some organic selections. Our pizza dreams were crushed when we realized they were 20 mins away.
“Do ya’ll deliver?”
For now, I’ll be making my own organic pizza pie with ingredients I found at my local Whole Food’s.
- 1 Whole Food's organic pizza dough (frozen section)
- Pizza Sauce (homemade, or store bought is fine)
- Shredded Mozzarella
- Uncured antibiotic-free pepperoni
- Slice white mushrooms
- Spinach
- Olive oil
- Preheat your oven to 450. Place your pizza stone in the oven to heat up as well.
- Let your dough come to room temperature. On a well floured surface begin to work the dough into the shape of a pizza. Ha, I'm no pro here. A little stretch, couple of tosses, just don't over work it.
- Put the dough on the hot pizza stone.
- Liberally apply sauce, toppings, and cheese.
- Put a little olive oil on the exposed crust and pop that baby in the oven for 15-18 mins. The time varies depending on how you like your pizza. Does it look done? Then it's done. Often, I finish mine off with a couple minutes on broil for an extra bubbly pie.
Total cost: Less than $10. Are you on a budget? Be sure to make your own pizza dough and sauce. Cheap trick: Instead of buying a whole pack, get your pepperoni from the deli section 1/8lb. is plenty for a pizza.
What do ya’ll like to put on your pizza? Please don’t say pineapple.
