My 28th birthday was by far the strangest birthday I’ve ever had. We were traveling back from D.C., I didn’t have cake, and I went to bed while it was still daylight. Page took me out to lunch over the weekend for my birthday. We did an overview of my life in different categories. You know, like: goals, relationships, selflessness, health, etc.It was enlightening, I’m mostly excelling in categories that don’t carry much weight eternally.
Memorial Day is an excellent time to visit D.C. There was very little traffic, I’m guessing because most travelers head to the beach. Page’s mom lives a few miles from the White House. We did some sightseeing, walked around the city, and enjoyed a leisurely weekend.
I stumbled upon my MIL’s Mennonite cookbook,”More with less” that she used to cook for her family when Page and his siblings were growing up. There are notes and stains throughout. I loved it so much, I requested she put me down for it in her will. Is that a normal thing to do? I found a new love for old cookbooks, the more used the better. I also ordered my own revised copy, that got here yesterday!
The morning after we got back home, I was overwhelmed by how our house is a giant mess. I am messy but, it does get to a certain level where it starts to bother even me. Page reminded me, it doesn’t matter. I often put expectations on myself as a wife that Page doesn’t even have of me. It really doesn’t matter. So I turned on Cheer up by J. Cole, made a drink, and hooped(yep, with a hula-hoop). We put emphasis on loving each other and enjoying life. Don’t miss out on life because you had to unload the dishwasher.
For my birthday I got: a new cast iron, knife, and a veggie spiralizer. I’m getting the idea that people want me to cook more.Once we got back to Durham we had a birthday sidewalk pizza party with just me and my little family. Do you ever eat pizza and think, “I’m just eating straight-up bread?” Yeah, me too.
